My boss has adopted a new puppy from a local rescue group. Kudos to the good Doc for adopting from a rescue. The problem is that the dog, a 6 month old, neutered, Terrier mix, was supposed to have been potty trained and well, he's not. The little pooch likes to go number 2 in the house and my boss is at his wits end about the whole deal.
The doctor has asked for advice on the matter and has had luck with crate training and the umbilical method. I've also had success using both of these methods after adopting from rescues.
When adopting from a rescue the dogs are usually called potty trained but I've found that a dog still needs to be potty trained for every new house he moves too. A previously potty trained adult dog will catch on much faster then a puppy but I still take the time to show the dog where it is supposed to go potty. That way I don't risk house training mishaps.
