The 2006 December Solstice begins precisely at 7:22p.m. EST on 12/21 and at 00:22 UTC on 12/22. In the northern hemisphere, the December solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year. In the southern hemisphere, the day marks the shortest night and longest day of the year. No matter where you live and garden, this is also the sun's signal to celebrate.
