Spring-blooming Witchhazels

These small trees, hybrids between the Japanese and Chinese witchhazels, began blooming during the last week of January, but a week of cold weather stopped them. They began blooming again this week as the weather began to warm.

Because these trees are hybrids, their flowers are larger and more colorful than the Native American autumn and spring-blooming witchhazels. Two of these trees have red flowers and three with yellow ones. I do not know exactly which cultivars they are because I never saw the identification tags.

However, not knowing the cultivar names of these trees does not limit my enthusiasm and delight in their early spring-bloom, nor my anticipation of their coming autumn splendor.
