Here we are in mid-February looking upwards at a slender new moon. At dusk on February 19th look at this waxing moon to see Venus - the brightest of all planets – appearing directly beneath it. These two bodies hover above the sunset point on the horizon for a few hours after sundown. Another celestial attraction for the 19th is earthshine - the moon’s night side is softly illuminated in sunlight reflected from Earth and back to the moon.
