It’s all gloom and doom at the moment. Open a newspaper and there’s another story about the latest financial worry. Read the online news headlines and you would think the world is coming to an end.
My brother just rang to say it has been snowing where he lives in the United Kingdom and that is in the SOUTH not up north where you might expect the weather to have turned wintry so early. More gloom as SAD syndrome sets in early because of the weather.
Here in Cyprus it’s a different story. We’ve just been for a bike ride in warm sunshine; it’s still 26 degrees C here at the end of October. Riding along in beautiful scenery with the wind in your hair has to be about the best way to forget about the doom and gloom gripping the world.
Yes, we’re lucky to have made the move here four years having made the brave decision to start our own cycling and walking business. Our bookings will no doubt be affected as the credit crunch bites even deeper next year, but there is something about the wonderful island of Cyprus that just lets all those worries simply melt away.
Feeling blue? Just take a walk outside and breathe in the fresh scents of wild thyme and juniper or ride into the pine forest for an alpine escape. Whilst many people come here purely for beach holidays and others come to get married, lured by guaranteed sunshine, outdoor lovers come to Cyprus to leave their cares behind and revel in the simplicity of nature.
Some love it so much they pack up their bags and move here for good. Just like us.
