I don't know about you, but it seems that pretty much all the music awards out there these days are long on promises and short on delivery. They seem to be more about celebrity profiles and glitzy performances than about the music. So-called music recognition events offer everything except the chance for genuinely talented musicians to be recognized. Its actually been my premise for quite some time that the only people that win any type of music awards are the ones that have in some form or another paid to win. I know that sounds extreme, but seriously, how can the World Music Awards really say that the world's best rock group is Nickelback?
My point is that the Independent Music Awards are probably the only awards that are of any substance as they “recognize excellence in music, music promotion, packaging and merch design.”
Unlike other awards, winners here receive amazing promotional opportunities. Additionally, these awards give music lovers the chance to hear and see some of the best that the world of Indie music has to offer. I recommend checking out the IMA website where you can view the judges, find out about material submission, and check out previous years winners.
