After the last few days, I am absolutely in love with NBC's Today Show. I'm going to have to tune in every single day from now on. I'd turn on the program some days, but never every day. But the show has been so pleasing to my ear for three consecutive days, and as they say, the third time is a charm. I'm hooked.
Friday: Stevie Nicks sang Landslide live and flawlessly. I think I was the happiest I have ever been. I just had the show on and was getting ready to go out for the day. I wasn't really paying attention. But I heard the opening notes of the song and was transfixed.
Yesterday: Beyonce was on the show performing a couple songs and being interviewed by a very lucky Matt Lauer. Armed with a chick army of backup singers and guitar players, B did an acoustic version of Irreplaceable. She even sang part of it en espanol after admitting to Lauer that she speaks no Spanish at all.
After a break, B came back to do a less calm and intimate performance of a song I haven't heard before. (I have not bought a Beyonce album). She had two Robert-Palmer-video-type chicks playing keyboards on stage with her. I think she may have been better off not dancing for this one because the dance moves were Macarena style. What happened to the sexy slithering from the Beautiful Liar video with Shakira? (My boyfriend's favorite video). I also thought they were all dressed like the Femmebots from Austin Powers in their glittery dresses. Possibly this was a throwback to her Foxy Cleopatra days in Goldmember?
But still, silly getups and dance moves aside, Beyonce does not disappoint. She's still a fabulous singer. Maybe it was wise to wait on buying her album since B'Day is now re-released as of today with beaucoup extras.
Today: Martina McBride was singing her latest Anyway. I know what you're thinking - this is the pop music page, so where's she going with this one? First, I've never been a fan of McBride until this song and I love it. Listen carefully because I swear she sounds like Faith Hill. In fact, I thought this was a Hill song the first three times I heard it. Second, she's coming back to kick off the official Today concert series they do every year in a few weeks. So there will be even more good music to wake up and watch!
