Bush is Coming to Canada

The reason for the meeting is to discuss the future of the SPP -- Security and Prosperity Partnership. The SPP furthers NAFTA's objectives by including issues relating to foreign policy and security. In a way, it is aiming to create one large continent. A real problem here for those interested in peace, is that is all three countries are acting in harmony with each other's interests, then if one country goes to war, the others will likely have to follow.

Because of this threat, and because of Bush's blatent lack of regard for ending the war in Iraq (and indeed, for invading that country in the first place), protests are being planned all over Canada to coincide with the dates of his Canadian visit. At first, it was thought the leaders would go to Kananaskis, where the G8 Summit occurred some years back. Now, it looks like it will likely be somewhere in Quebec or Ottawa (with Alberta still being a possibility). The projected dates are August 21-22 or thereabouts, according to the website of the Council of Canadians.
