Did Matthew, the tax collector and eyewitness disciple of Jesus, write the Gospel which bears his name? And was the Gospel of Luke written by its namesake, the physician and close friend of the Apostle Paul? An affirmative answer to those questions greatly enhances the credibility of these Gospels as accurate accounts of the life of Jesus. A negative answer, on the other hand, greatly diminishes their credibility.
