Radio host and columnist Bob Burney says that Mormons need to come clean. They need to "simply tell the truth" about what they really believe. According to Burney and other critics, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) is not being straight with America about its beliefs. According to these critics, Mormons are couching their theology in broad, evangelical language and veiling their more controversial teachings.
In his op-ed for Townhall.com, Bob Burney writes:
This is America. You can believe anything you want. If you want to believe that God was once a human being, that Jesus was his physical son, that you can become a God yourself, that Jesus and Satan were brothers, you can certainly do so. But tell the truth! If you believe it, be proud of it—don’t try to hide it.
What, if anything, are Mormons trying to hide? Aren't they just another Christian denomination?
Radio host Frank Pastore answers with an emphatic "No." Though he has stated he will support Mitt Romney, if the former Massachusetts governor wins the Republican nomination, Pastore does not have nice things to say about Mormonism itself.
"Though I am willing to unite with Mormons in common cause to advance our shared values, I am unwilling to allow Mormonism to be mistaken for Christianity," writes Pastore in his op-ed column.
What do you think? Are Mormons hiding parts of their theology? Give us your thoughts in the discussion forum. If there's anyone reading this who is part of the LDS Church or who has had experience in an LDS church, I would especially like to hear from you in this conversation.
