My wife, Jane, loves Samaritan's Purse. When we came to Wilmington, Ohio to serve at Sligo Baptist Church, one of the first projects she wanted the church to get involved with was "Operation Christmas Child." She had been very involved with it at our previous church, Fair Oaks Church, in Fairfax, Virginia.
What is Operation Christmas Child?
According to the Samaritan's Purse website, Operation Christmas Child "brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love." Truer words cannot be spoken.
The program involves getting people of all ages - from churches and ministries all over - to fill shoe boxes with gifts appropriate to the targeted age group. Samaritan's Purse offers suggestions for those age groups. Volunteers are then asked to donate $7 per shoe box to help cover shipping costs. The boxes are sent to children in poverty-stricken areas throughout the world.

Get Involved
I encourage you to get involved in this worthwhile project. Ask your pastor if your church is doing something along these lines. If not, get the information you need - and then offer to help coordinate things at your church or local ministry.
Help bring a smile to a child that needs it this Christmas.
