A friend of mine recently gave me a tape of a program he recorded off the History Channel. It's called "Exodus Decoded." It's a visually stunning documentary - made for reportedly $3.5 million - that looks at the biblical story of Exodus from a new perspective.
The documentary argues principally that the Exodus takes place hundreds of years before mainstream ancient world and biblical scholars place the event, and that there are plausible, scientific explanations for many of the miracles recorded in the biblical story.
If you are unfamiliar with the program, check out the official website at...

Among the more controversial claims in the program are that the Red Sea is really the "Reed Sea" and that the Israelite exodus takes place about the same time as (and is linked in Egyptian history with) the Hyksos expulsion.

Whatever the specific merits of the documentary's claims, it is an extremely well made documentary. It's visually mesmerizing and definitely thought-provoking. I recommend it on those grounds alone.
