Nearly every woman I have met in the last 11 years has worried that her newborn is being well-fed and getting enough breast milk to eat at every feeding.
Unfortunately I have known pediatricians who recommend formula only because the baby is fussy and therefore outruling that the baby "might be hungry". Feeding your baby formula is counterproductive to the issue of breast milk quantity since it acts to decrease your milk supply. The more formula you feed your baby, the more you basically tell your body "Hey, don't make so much breast milk. There isn't as much demand here anymore." Breast milk production works strictly by supply and demand.
Included in this week's article are some practical and "measurable" signs to look for so that you can easily tell how satisfed your baby is. In a nutshell, if you are observant and getting to know your baby, all of these signs will become very easy to identify in the first days and weeks after you give birth.
Se sure to check out the Signs that baby is getting enough article as well as the additional discussion topic.
