Humus – A Solar Battery?

Humus is actually a naturally-occurring, organic solar battery, storing solar energy to grow plants.

In the article: Humus: An Organic Solar Battery, the author describes the process of creating humus, and how and why it stores energy. Some scientists have proven that an acre of soil, amended with four percent humus, is equal in energy to 20 to 25 tons of anthracite coal.

Although humus is naturally occurring, you can make your own humus through composting of organic matter.
