I love making ponchos. They look so adorable on kids and work so well when a coat is too hot, but something is needed for the chill in the air. And, since they don't have buttons, you really can throw it on and go!
Another great thing about ponchos is that even beginners can crochet one up without a pattern. Just start with the neck hole, making sure it will fit over the head, and go 'round and 'round. Simply increase the number of stitches every couple of rows to create a nice flow.
I've included a few pictures of ponchos I made with no patterns. Here's a bit of a secret; these were the first projects I ever completed! My girls LOVE them, and wear them all the time.
The poncho is one of the best projects for beginners who would like to design their own clothes. Jump right into it; it's hard to go wrong.
