I'm going to tell you a secret...

Now that Thanksgiving is out of the way, I trust you are appropriately in full-swing Christmas panic mode.

I, for once, am not.

Here's my secret: everyone is getting washcloths. Really.

I love making gifts and don't mind putting resources into them, however I'm sooooooo tired of giving out great gifts that take a lot of time (and sometimes money) like scarves, potholders, wraps, lap blankets, etc. Why? Because most of them wind up put away in a trunk or other storage container. Perhaps the recipients don't like them, but I don't believe that accounts for every case. I'm pretty sure a lot of them are afraid to use them.

My message to these people is this: if you don't like a gift I make, just give it away. I won't be offended; I probably won't even know! I'd rather someone get it and use it. If you like it, then use it! Are you afraid to get it dirty? Are you afraid it will fall apart? Wash it; if it falls apart, I promise to make you a new one. Whatever the case, the world will continue revolving.

By next year, I'm hoping this message will get across and I can go back to making personalized items. But for now, I'm making washcloths and attaching notes lettered with "USE ME!" in red to them. I'm truly hoping they will be christened in bathrooms, kitchens, or even on the floors. Maybe people will like them so much, they'll request them again next year. Or not. My feelings are not that easily hurt.

But please, don't put them in an attic...

...unless you're spring cleaning it.
