Bono visits Oakland

Bono went to Oakland, California at the invitation of Barbara Lee. The main purpose was to draw attention to the alarming increase in AIDS cases in the Oakland area. While Bono has traditionally focused on the problem of AIDS in Africa, he did note parallels between the rise of AIDS in Oakland and the problem in Africa. Specifically, Bono spoke about the issues of poverty leading people into dangerous behaviours and activities, as well as the Church's need to take a larger leadership role in the fight against AIDS.
