Recall of turkey breast slices

Cooked seasoned sliced turkey breast sold in one kilogram packages in Costco stores in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba has been recalled by Lilydale Inc. due to fears that the meat may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recall is precautionary only: no illnesses have been reported from consumption of the affected product.

Turkey and chicken are prone to contamination by Salmonella and other potentially harmful bacteria normally found in the gut of the birds.

Salmonella can cause fever, headache, nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea. In some cases, particularly young children, elderly and immunocompromised people can develop serious Salmonella infections.

Health Canada provides instructions on how to avoid Salmonella infection (Health Canada).
