I read the headlines and all I can think is, "This will not end well."
Sadly, the Jon & Kate Gosselin saga continues in what can only be called a full-on, throw-down at this point. Headlines today announce a depleted bank account. Hopefully, the eight children are being spared the hateful tension between their parents.
Only a week ago, TLC announced it would be dropping Jon's name from the show and renaming to Kate Plus Eight. Since then, numerous television appearances have played out, with the back and forth antics of Jon and Kate growing moreso every day. A quick review ...
It's rumored that Jon was looking to join a new reality show called The Divorced Dad's Club in which he would co-star with Michael Lohan and Kevin Federline. (glad to see Jon aim's high) Unfortunately for him, he is under contract with TLC who holds his "exclusive rights".
When TLC announced the rename to Kate Plus Eight, the company noted Jon is under exclusive rights with them. It struck me as odd at the time, but now it seems to make more sense. One can only assume Jon may have felt trapped by his contract and unable to pursue something of his own. What could he do? Well, he could throw a fit and halt the production. And, he did.
Staing he had an epiphany, Jon claims he suddenly came to the realization that the show was bad for his children. After five seasons ... and allegedly still filming the show just days before he decided it was awfully wrong, Jon decided to take legal action to bar TLC from further filming. A case of tit for tat?
The downward spiral continued today with the announcement Jon had withdrawn 230k from their joint banking account. Jon claims he hadn't been personally remunerated over the years and withdrew what he was due. Isn't the show all for the children? I must be missing something.
The eight people who have no real say in the situation are the ones who may be hurt by this the most. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but at some point in the future all this tension and ill-will between parents cannot be good for the children. It's unfortunate that two adults, who claim to do everything for their children, would allow all of this to happen so publicly and so vindictively.
What's next? The story continues to play out in the media ...
