I'm still processing the Ellen DeGeneres news and not sure what I think of it. While I won't miss Paula Abdul, I hadn't really pondered who should fill her shoes. A part of me wishes the show would have continued with only 3 judges.
I love Ellen, in small to moderate doses, and wonder how she'll handle the judging. If she brings her deadpan-rambling style of humor to each critique, it could be disaster and painful to view. Seriously, I won't be able to watch it.
Ellen does bring the 'normal' person view which has been absent from the judging. And in Ellen, American Idol has made a wise business decision. With a popular talk show, it's likely her deal involves some sort of guaranteed American Idol promotion or tie-in with her daytime show. Not many TV hosts could offer such great exposure.
I've read all sorts of thoughts on the topic and I'm wondering what others think. Will Ellen make a good American Idol judge? Is there someone else you would have preferred?
