2007 Central Coast Wine Classic

The Central Coast Wine Classic , launched in 1985 by Archie McLaren, is one of America's major multi-day wine events. It is typically introduced by a black tie dinner at famed Hearst Castle, overlooking the splendid rocky Central California coastline at San Simeon. This year's dinner will be prepared by Iron Chef Cat Cora. Tickets to this event are $1250 per person, but patron sponsorship is required.

The events of the 2007 Wine Classic will be held July 12-15 and will include:

  • a barrel tasting at the Dolphin Bay Hotel in Shell Beach
  • a 20-mile wine country cycling tour led by vintner/adventurer Carissa Chappelet
  • a seminar on historic local Pinot Noir vineyards led by James Jay of Southern Wine & Spirits
  • a seminar on Bordeaux blends from California, Washington State and France presented by Master Sommelier Fred Dame, featuring wines from Bernardus, Chappellet, Chateau Palmer, Chateau St. Jean, Justin, Chateau Margene, DeLille, Opus One, Pride Mountain, Ridge, Rudd and Vineyard 29
  • a cooking demonstration and luncheon featuring Iron Chef Cat Cora
  • a seminar on California Tempranillos hosted by James Jay of Southern Wine & Spirits
  • a Rare & Fine Wine & Lifestyle Auction
  • a Single Vineyard Wine Symposium, featuring Melville Winery and Nickel & Nickel, Hosted by Master Sommelier, Jay James of Southern Wine & Spirits
  • a Schramsberg Vineyards Methode Champenoise Symposium, Hosted by Proprietor Hugh Davies
  • a Reserve Wine Tasting
  • winery dinners at selected local wineries

Proceeds from the 2007 Central Coast Wine Classic will benefit Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Central Coast Center for Arts Education, Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, Children's Health Initiative, Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo, Enhancement Health & Wellness, Opera Santa Barbara, San Luis Chamber Orchestra, San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts/International Choral Festival, University of California at Santa Barbara Arts & Lectures, San Luis Obispo Children's Museum, San Luis Obispo Symphony Orchestra and Transitional Food & Shelter.

Sponsors of the Wine Classic include Wine Spectator, General Motors, Chevron/Molycorp Corporation, Wells Fargo Bank and various other patrons.

Each event is separately ticketed, with prices ranging from $50 to $125. All events take place in the San Luis Obispo area.
