Those who have followed my assorted ramblings about animated film for the past 2 years have noticed that I've been talking about a little project called Gatchaman.
For those of you just coming into the loop, Imagi (best known for the recent TMNT reboot) is remaking the classic anime Toriumi brothers anime, that became the first sentai anime, featuring a five-person superhero team.
The 10 second spot features a futuristic-looking car (likely Joe Asakura's) fishtailing on a busy urban street. Just as a couple of other vehicles are about to take part in an unplanned demolition derby, the camera pans up to the Phoenix, the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman's trusty plane/mecha. Cue a fade-to-black, and the new Gatchaman logo.
The consensus? So far, so good. We still don't have a definite idea of what the team looks like, but the basic art is pretty sharp. Of course, Imagi is known for smokin' CGI; their weakness is the story. Let's hope they get the script together for this flick.
You can watch the trailer on Youtube by clicking here. Gatchaman hits theatres on April 3, 2009.
