We must each guard against the demon that lives inside each of us. The final suicide is left until the bitter end as men's lives are wasted in attempting to get to Hitler, the death of whom is the only way to stop the whole tragedy. Now the Allies were held up, it seemed, only by the fanaticism of one man but this was no match for the huge fordes sent against him; Hitler's days were numbered. Hitler continued to dominate and the generals had to follow, as he was now surrounded by fanatics who would have killed all and everyone at any further attempts to assassinate him. Out of this grew the last pitched battle of the war, a battle rather than a process of attrition, the ... In this final year, death and murder are the norm but some, at least, try to stop the whole murderous business - without success. Even from the outset, Hitler's influence and unmilitary orders had their adverse effect on the proper use of his men, and certainly contributed to the success of the Allies on all three beachheads. With the arrival of D-Day, Hitler simply had too many fronts to defend, but continued with his programme of murder as if there were no tomorrow. The World at War - Hungary and After Despite facing obvious defeat, Hitler continued on his crazed way to fulfill the promises made in Mein Kampff, but he could not fight on two fronts. The Beginning of the End - Part 1 The year of defeat, 1943, brought only renewed determination by Hitler to hold on to the very last, while he continued his murderous programme. |
