Eichler homes still stand as a vision of a man who wanted design to reach masses. In his own words, “his homes were not modern or traditional, they were Eichler.”
Eichler homes - I
Architect Joseph Eichler built hundreds of homes in San Francisco bay area during the period between 1949 and 1967. The first Eichler house appeared in Sunnyvale in 1950. With their unconventional designs and affordability, they soon became popular in the area.
Manhattan style
Though, Manhattan style is not recognized as a formal design style, it is interesting to study how one city can evolve its own, unique style of design.
Mission Style II
Mission style is playful and romantic. The blend of these elements with modern amenities has made it a popular modern style.
Mission style - I
Mission style invokes memories of exotic cultures of Morocco and North Africa and artistic temperament of virgin California. It is a style with long and rich tradition that is popular even today.
Regency period
Regency period can be called as an extension of Georgian period. Often it’s considered as late Georgian era. Since Georgian period lasted for about 150 years, it went through various phases.
Early Georgian Style
Georgian style nearly spanned for 120 years, from 1700 to 1820. Thus, it went through lot of changes. The upheavals in socio-economic life in Britain during this era, influenced Georgian style to a great extent.
Rococo Style (1715 - 1750)
Rococo style was characterized by asymmetry, fine and ornamental plasterwork. It was a romantic but expensive design style. Thus it remained confined to the upper-crust of the society.
Italian Style
Italian style has been admired all over the world for its extraordinary creativity. Fantasy, sense of proportion and color are the features common to both, modern and traditional Italian design.
Mexican style
Mexican design style gained versatility due to its blend of texture and colors. It can add aesthetic flavor to any modern design. Due to their rustic texture Mexican artifacts add texture and depth to any interior design.
Ethnic Indian style.
With the awakening of the country style things started changing. Preserving cultural heritage became the ‘in’ thing. Due to its simplicity today, western Indian design style has become the most recognized ethnic style.
Traditional Indian Style.
In India the architecture and interior design were mainly in the form of either aristocratic or spiritual expression. The life style of common man was neither recognized nor was given any particular importance. Yet traditional Indian style is something different from what India is today.
Prairie Style
The Prairie style of design was the most modern in its design and divergent in its philosophy. While most original Prairie design was intended for specific residences, some of it has been reproduced and have become important to today's interior design.
Victorian Design
During Victorian era mass production and transportation facilities made it possible for decorating to reach masses.
Japanese Style
Japanese design is admired universally for its simplicity and flexibility. The pure shapes, clean lines and the uncluttered spaces reflect highly disciplined aesthetics.
