Have you ever wanted to take a trip around the Adirondacks, but find that you live too far away, or travel just isn't in your plans right now? F is for 'Follow My Moccasin's Tracks' I recently came across a wonderful book that is the next best thing to actually getting to talk to a true Adirondack old-timer. We have also been seeing a lot of press about snowshoeing this year. So, I ask, "Do you snowshoe?" If you're like me, a die-hard straight ski downhiller, you probably love your old straight boards. If you're thinking of making the switch to those curvy new skis, this article may have a few tips to help you make that transition. I is for 'It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas' Here are a few "holiday things" to do if you find yourself up here in the North Country between now and December 25. They predicted a little snow here the other night. Sure enough - by morning the tops of the mountains surrounding our house, and cars and lawns downtown were all snow covered. It only lasted a little while, but it was a sure reminder that winter likes to make inroads early up ... For years we've said that we should take a hike up one or ... C is for 'Can't Get There From Here!' For those of us living in the southern part of the Adirondacks, getting to Vermont is easy. Just a half hour drive to the Vermont border, we routinely ski and shop in Vermont towns. But for those living more to the north, getting to Vermont is more problematic. Lake George is only one of many Adirondack lakes whose water quality is important to residents and recreational users alike. Checking and maintaining the quality of all lakes in the Adirondacks is an important undertaking, and one that Adirondack residents can help do. The Adirondacks are bookended between two important historic sites - Fort Ticonderoga National Historic Landmark to the north, and the Saratoga National Historical Park to the south. Each marks an important site in our nation's history, and each has many great programs and activities to offer. Here in the North Country we often see many kinds of wildlife, so the issue of wildlife rehabilitation is an important one for us.
