The Slaughter, Pt. 3

The newest article, from me, which I had been working on for a long time. Enjoy.

The Slaughter, Part 2

Part Two of four articles dealing with the survival of the Network Line-Ups, especially during The Slaughter. This time, I pick on Nickelodeon.

The Slaughter, Part 1

Evidently, with "Digimon", "Mon Colle Knights", and "Transformers: Robots in Disguise" still on air, the upper management at Fox must feel pretty comfortable. Even after they get taken over by 4Kids Entertainment (production company of "Pokemon"), that attitude probably won't change. Until they get incinerated by their rivals.

Indecisive

This piece seems piercingly esoteric to me. I tried, though, to eliminate some of the trademark fogginess associated with most of my articles.

Cartoons, Cartoons

You'll like this article, if you watch "Cartoon, Cartoon" with your kids or your family. It mostly focuses on what goes on behind the scenes, as well as emphasizing the appeal of cartoons created by independent animators.

The Failure of OSMOSIS JONES

This article probably doesn't merit a read-through, since it isn't universal. Nevertheless, you will at least gain better understanding as to why some animated films fail miserably at the box office and others succeed. When you know how to market crap, most likely you'll get big returns.

SPECTACULARLOVELYGROTESQUE!!!

At least, this article will not get me fired from any major studio. Actually, it might.

Exhibition of Orientation

Pretty controversial article. In fact, I might lose some friends because of this.

He-Man

If you watched the premiere of what is being touted as a "new" incarnation of the 1983 He-Man, then you probably noticed that there was something important missing from the whole shebang.

A Brief Article About Public Domain

Mickey Mouse will be ours in 2003. Unfortunately, it will also belong to the hackers. If Disney's Dream Team lawyers can't find a way to protect Disney's property.

All in the ABC Family

I DARE you to take a look at ABC family in the mornings. Go on. It can't hurt--much. Though, the quality of the programming on there is so horrifically bad that it might traumatize your young children, provided that you have any. And if you are expecting, don't even think about ...

Fred Quimby

You know that name that you saw on all the early "Tom & Jerry" cartoons? Well, Fred Quimby was just a name. He had little talent. Listen, I'm not trying to debunk the man's legacy here. I'm only attempting to tell the truth and separate facts from fiction.

Expletives

Not what you think it is.

25 Frames Per Second

For non-geeks, you probably wouldn't "get" this article. Geeks would, though. But all are invited to read this article and whaddya know--you just might learn something.

Robocop: Alpha Commando

Robocop! You know, about a cop that was seriously injured by enemies one night, then almost died. The only way that they could save him was to put him in a robotic body. But, that's the plot line for the live-action movie. I'm talking about the animated series in this article. ...

Randy Newman's Oscar

Another rather short article about the Oscars, with a special concentration on animated films. This time around, I focus on the astonishing, nigh-historical win for Randy Newman, who won for "If I Didn’t Have You”--Best Song for "Monsters, Inc." After being denied 16 times--or was it 17? Jeez . . . ...

A Promising Start

The majority of this article is about the now-passe Animated Film category at the Oscars, but it is coming back into relevancy as we begin to speculate the nominees for next year's (2003) Oscar session

To Be PG Or Not To Be PG-13

I saw a PG film not too long ago, in fact, and it was called "The Powerpuff Girls". It was rated PG. And I thought to myself, "PG for what?" An exploration of the ratings assigned to films, with a special focus on animated films.

Maybe You Can't . . . But I Can

In this article, I take you through an imaginary world, that is very much like our own. In fact, it is exactly like our own, save for the existence of two creatures: Live Action and Animation, both which have the power to bring a unique set of objects to life, for ...

E/I

Edutainment should cease to exist. There should be no such thing as educational television, besides that which aires on Discovery and TLC. Oh, and by the way, FCC--both of those channels are slowly morphing into entertainment channels. The History Channel will air a reality series about people from the 21st Century ...

Not Brave Enough To Go Theatrical

Sequels are often created to annoy the customer into purchase. Whoops, I'm sorry. That must be TV commercials. Or, maybe it's a combination of commercials and sequels. It all looks the same, tactics designed to get customers to buy crap. At any rate, the company in question (you know who you ...

Just Imagine: Animated Adaptations of Previously Published Material

A continuation of my complaints against the studios for simplifying an art form to the bare basics, but with a twist. I promise.

Stop It With The Funny Animal Sidekicks

Do you like funny animal sidekicks? Do you know anyone who does? Neither do I. Oh yeah, and I don't like them either.

A Vision of the Future of TV Animation, in Three Acts

This is one of the most ambitious, controversial articles that I may ever write. Of course, this will not be the only ambitious article that I will write. Hang on. What you're about to read (if you choose to read it) will, quite possibly, blow you away. Not for the squeamish. ...

General Matters

Or, "When will I stop whining about that which I cannot control?" It's nice to wish sometimes, though. This article is about general matters, like the title says. Well, actually, it's about matters that aren't so general, but rather specific in nature.

Because We're Too Lazy To Do New Ones

Have you ever watched an episode of your favorite show where the creators were just too lazy to do a completely new episode? They resorted to clipping together segments of past episodes. You just said, "Oh well. At least, some of it's new." You, as the loyal viewer, should not tolerate ...

Ours, and No One Else's

Does Anime belong to its fans? I mean, just because we go to the conventions and the festivals and scream like bats doesn't necessarily mean that we own the genre.

Borderline

When are you too old to watch "cartoons"? An exploration of how I came to see these "cartoons" as something more than the above term implies.

They Shoot Animators, Don't They?

Who's to blame when things go wrong? Executives? Animators? When animated shows fail and the crapstorm follows, we get to see the ones who really take the responsibility.

Prudes.

Yo mother[lover]! What's up? Here's this article that talks some bull[crap] about censorship, and the son of a [guns] that enforce it. You know what? Why don't I just say some real cuss words?

Male Characters vs. Female Characters

I do admit that I was a bit indifferent as to how females were showcased on television, as opposed to male images. That is why I wrote this article, to explore my perceptions (and the public's perception, as a whole) on gender representation.

What's Up With The Running Time?

Running length is a negotiable thing. I mean, you don't want to be sitting in a seat forever, wondering: "When is this movie going to end?" Especially if you're seeing a particularly bad movie. With screaming kids.

What If We Were Studio Executives?

The world would be a real dangerous place if we were in positions of power, wouldn't it? Or, would it be a happier one? Imagine, at least for five minutes, the things that you would do if you were one of the Movers and the Shakers.

The Situation vs. The Plot

Or, "How Can I Make My Article More Boring?" Most likely, this article won't sustain your interest for the time it takes light to travel. If that's the case, there are too many other articles on Suite 101 that would merit your attention.

The Substance of Czech Animation

Think about the quality of this country's animated entertainment. Now, think about our style and the I.Q. of our programs, and you'll find that--by examining Czech animation--we are sorely outdone by foreigners in both categories.

The Defenders of Originality, Pt. 2

Part Two of the profiles of non-compromising animators. (Warning: This article has two mild profanities. This article is suitable for those 12 & older.)

The Defenders of Originality, Pt. 1

The animators who defend originality--and perpetuate the medium's quality by teaching future generations not to make the same mistakes that the current one is making.

The Legitimacy of Animation

The image of animation, as according to the viewing public.
