Mystery Date ZineThe name Mystery Date comes from the popular board game for girls from the 1960s. As editor and publisher Lynn Peril writes in the introduction to Mystery Date #1, the zine is devoted to her "obsession with used books - particularly old sex and dating manuals , etiquette, and self-help books, and health, beauty, and fashion guides." I got Issue #6 in the mail last month. It includes a story about finding the right bra by Candi Strecker, articles on the history of the bra, the mysterious and slightly scary world of feminine hygiene, and a look at celebrity advice guides for teens. The web site is great and has a lot of the same information as the print version - plus links and cool graphics. A gallery of Home Ex textbooks, Find of the Month, links to other zines, and more! To experience the full effect of Mystery Date though, there's nothing like the print version (bonus - you can carry it around with you and pass it along to your friends!) To order Mystery Date #6, featuring a lovely pink cover (suitable for use as a coaster when you've finished reading the zine), send $2.00, cash or stamps only to: Lynn Peril You can also order back issues, such as, #1 which includes an essay on books about the 60s, Sex Ed on Vinyl. Or #3, featuring books about Jayne Mansfield, Lynn's own experiences as a platinum blonde, and the MD Film Festival.
