The world's greatest museums and art galleries are located thousands of kilometers apart from each other. But it takes just a stroke on the keyboard for a short stroll to these famous art repositories.
The Guggenheim Foundation galleries are located in New York, Bilbao (Spain), Venice and Berlin. Their website provides an overview of all the galleries displaying an international array of major modern art collections. There's also the fascinating Cyberatlas, a collection of curated maps of cyberspace. The Louvre Museum in Paris is too big to tour in a day but a 3-D virtual tour will not take too long. Britain's world-renowned gallery houses the most fascinating collections of British art from the last couple of centuries. Italy's premier gallery of the Renaissance boasts of a large collection of images from six of its important rooms. Moreover, the website has the ability to zoom in on most of the images. Located in New York, the museum's website features a tour and current backgrounder of its current exhibitions. Also available are daily dispatches from the MoMA's curator. A must-see visit, the gallery's site shows major pictures from all periods of European painting from the British National collection. The Puzzling Pictures section, with anecdotal questions about some in the collection is an interesting great idea. Features a large image of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling makes this site a visual feast. Many of the images can be downloaded in larger versions. You can also view The Vatican Museums and Renaissance gallery from here.
