"The Gigantic Book of Games for Youth Ministry Volume 1" Review Copyright 1999 Group Publishing

If you could only buy one book to use for your group activities, this is the one that I suggest getting. First, it's not too large and can easily be stuffed in a backpack. Second, it's one of the best books I have found to use in a pinch.

Broken into three basic categories-- Bible-Learning Games, Team-Building Games, and Energy-Burning Games, this book has a simple table of contents and consistent lay-out to make finding the game you search for painless. Each game follows the same formula:

Overview-- discusses the basis concept behind the game and what it teaches

Supplies-- what is needed to run the game

Preperation-- how much time it takes to get the game ready to play

Time Involved-- the average length of the game

Directions-- how the game is played with some diagrams if needed

Questions-- some questions to lead the group in discussion after playing the game

Relevant words are in bold print for easy scanning. Each category has plenty of game ideas to last through a year or so of meetings. Sidebars include ways to change a game to fit into another topic or to make the game more challenging.

From table games to circle games to active games, this book, priced under $15 and found at Christian book stores, has everything you need to keep your youth coming to every meeting.
