Spiritual sideline - Giving ThanksBut more than this, greater than my gratitude for the food on my plate and the roof over my head, more than my gratitude for sharing this life with the people I love, is my overwhelming thankfulness for the gift of just being alive. The true joy of Thanksgiving, for me, is forgetting, or ignoring the fact that life is hard, life is unfair, that life can be as indifferent to human suffering as a stone. My joy is in realizing, and remembering, that just being alive is the greatest gift of all. That being able to experience all the richness of human existence, good and bad, is a miracle in and of itself. Whether we go on to a different world after this, or whether it is ashes to ashes, dust to dust, is for the moment rendered irrelevant. What matters is that I am here to enjoy this perfect moment here and now. To all who read this, have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving, and may you be blessed with joy this season. And to my wonderful husband Larry, thank you, for the gift of sharing this moment, and this life, with me. Happy Thanksgiving!
