Handy Hand Tools and A Pot of Beautiful Bulbs
*Plan your timing carefully. Forced bulbs need a minimum of 13 to 15 weeks at 35 to 48 degrees F to develop roots and flower buds. *When potting up several varieties of bulbs in one pot, layer the bulbs so you will have a full pot of blooms flowering in sequence. Plant as many bulbs in each layer as possible, but don't let them touch each other or the edge of the pot. Tip: When forcing tulips, place the flat side of the bulb facing the edge of the pot. The foliage will wrap around the blooms instead of curving out of the pot. Sources: Better Homes and Gardens, November 1999.
