Tali is optimistic. He says the pitching staff is great, that Steve Karsay and Mike Stanton, two excellent relief pitchers, can take over Mariano Rivera’s role for a while, and that Roger Clemens, David Wells, Mike Mussina, Ted Lilly, and Sterling Hitchcock are better than any other starting five in baseball.

Tali also points out that the Yankees have hit over one hundred home runs and show no signs of stopping. Boston is starting to lose a few games and Tali thinks they will fade away, but I tell him they have been without Manny Ramirez for a long time and that he is returning soon. Tali is not worried. I am.

The Yankees begin an extended road trip Friday that will take them to the Orange and Blue eyesore in Flushing, the site of the clinching of their last World Championship, and then out west. Tali and I will know a lot more about the prospects for the rest of the season by June 28. So will Joe Torre.
