Book Review - The Haunted House by Francine Pascal

This is a book review on The Haunted House, which is the third book in the series titled Sweet Valley Twins created by Francine Pascal.

The twins, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, go to Sweet Valley Middle School. They live with their parents and older brother, Steven, who is fourteen.

One day, they rode their bikes near the Mercandy's place. They were curious about the house. According to the rumors, this place was haunted. People were especially afraid of Mrs. Mercandy because they heard she kept her husband locked in the attic. They also noticed that lights kept going on and off in the attic.

Jessica and Elizabeth noticed a little girl getting out of a taxi cab and walk to the front door. She carried a cardboard suitcase. They continued to watch her, but they didn't want to seem too obvious. A few minutes later, the girl came out and hollered for Boris. Jessica and Elizabeth saw the little girl pick up a black cat. After that, Mrs. Mercandy called the little girl inside.

The next day, the teacher announced that a new student was going to be here. The school secretary walked into the classroom with the little girl from the Mercandy mansion. The teacher, Ms. Pauley, wanted someone to show Nora, the little girl, around the school so she would become acquainted with the surroundings. Nobody volunteered for awhile, and then Elizabeth finally raised her hand to show Nora around the school.

After the bell rang for the students to go to their first class, Elizabeth walked over to Nora, but Lila stopped her. Lila didn't want Elizabeth to show her around. Lila thought Nora would cast a spell on them.

Elizabeth and Nora ate lunch together and then went to gym class. After that, Elizabeth had to go to her classes, and Nora went to hers. However, Nora had a bad afternoon. The students treated her badly. Even on the way home, Lila and her friends followed Nora and upset her.

Nora hated Sweet Valley and the school. She didn't like the way people treated her. She did like Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth arrived at home, she told Jessica wanted happened with Nora. Jessica still didn't believe Elizabeth. She believed that Nora was a witch.

Now, you'll have to read the book to find out what happened to Jessica, Elizabeth, and Nora. Is Nora a witch? Will Jessica like Nora, too? Is the house really haunted? What is happening in the attic? Is Mr. Mercandy locked in the attic?
