RAW Report 7/2/01
Happy Anniversary to Me! Tomorrow marks one year of sort-of doing these reports. How time flies... by the way, last year at this time, KURT ANGLE teamed with THE BROOKLYN BRAWLER against THE DUDLEY BOYS. He wasn't happy about it- saying the Brawler "hasn't won since the Carter Administration!"
We are LIVE from Tacoma, Washington, and the INVASION is still on, as it has been since last week. Yup, BOOKER T, DDP and SHANE MCMAHON against the whole WWF lower midcard. Or something.
1) a) Way to start with something unpredictable... VINCE MCMAHON drops by the ring to say that "July the 22nd, and let's be respectful, let's not get carried away in Tacoma... on July the 22nd, 2001, that day will mark the date as the greatest single day in sports entertainment history, because that will be the day when finally it is here, WCW vs. WWF... allegedly there's going to be an Invasion, but there's not going to be an invasion, there's going to be an annihilation." Vince says comparing WCW with WWF is like comparing D.C. with Washington State: D.C. is important, while "Here in Washington, you have lousy weather, and all you do is grow a bunch of apples." He says WCW champ BOOKER T doesn't match up to STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN.
b) KURT ANGLE joins the boss to "Your words were so moving, I couldn't help myself. I wish everybody had a boss more like you. And you're absolutely right about everything... for instance, in addition to lacking integrity, Booker T lacks intensity and intelligence as well. Let's look at the trouble he has caused." We see video clips of Booker T causing trouble. "The point is, Booker T has made our WWF champion, Stone Cold Steve Austin, look like, well, like what Austin would say... a jackass."
c) STONE COLD shows up, ostensibly to respond to this. Kurt vows that he'll ensure that BOOKER T won't ever attack him or Vince again. Austin isn't impressed: "You're a jackass, Vince thinks you're a jackass, everybody here thinks you're a jackass." "I'm a hero, I'm not a jackass." "You're a jackass." "Hero!" "Jackass!" "Hero!" "Jackass!" Vince says don't yell, beat each other up! Vince volunteers himself as ref, Kurt starts the match by giving Vince a hug! A jealous Austin gives Vince a longer hug! Austin tries for another hug but Angle blocks it, and...
d) SHANE MCMAHON shows up, and JIM ROSS says "Thank God the hug-fest is over!" He's not impressed by the hug-fest either. "Is this Raw, or is this an episode of 'Sesame Street'?" Shane says he wants a match for Invasion: WCW's best guys against WWF's best guys in the "first annual Inaugural Brawl." Shane gives himself the power to book the main event for tonight's show- BOOKER T defending his title against BUFF BAGWELL.
