RAW Report 1/29/01

1) Backstage STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN walks around. He's going to sign a contract for something tonight.

2) a) KURT ANGLE is here in his hometown! He makes fun of returning hockey star Mario Lemieux, then says that he'll face the winner of a four-way #1 contenders' match on Smackdown.

b) THE ROCK interrupts and shows us a dark secret from Kurt's past- a "Pizza Express" commercial Kurt made sometime after the Olympics! Very interesting commercial- Kurt's come a long way. We get the first half of the "If you smell" catchphrase before THE LARD SHOW shows up and beats up the Rock in his slow, lumbering way. The Rock doesn't seem to mind working with the Lard Show. Why is that? We cut to commercial before I find out.

3) DUDLEY BOYS d. KAIENTAI despite interference by guest commentators EDGE and CHRISTIAN. Sorry, but I missed most of this match due to circumstances beyond my control. The part I saw was good though.

4) Backstage COACH interviews VINCE MCMAHON, who says we will find out who the #1 contender is. TRIPLE H brings STEPHANIE and TRIPLE H's lawyer because they want Austin. Uh, did he think we didn't know that? Vince says "Cool it" and H says "No." We cut to commercial.

5) During the commercial THE ROCK says his eye is fine.

6) Backstage MICHAEL COLE interviews BILLY GUNN, who says CHYNA is "a star, and no one will ever stop the Ninth Wonder of the World from shining." Whatever.

7) STEVE BLACKMAN d. VAL VENIS. Sorry about your mom, Val. Val rushes Blackman as he hits the ring but Blackman beats the stuffing out of him. STEVEN RICHARDS tries to interfere and gets pasted. Val uses some cheap shots in the corner to gain control and throws Blackman to the floor, where Richards and IVORY get some kicks in. Val heads outside and slams Blackman into the stairs before rolling him in. Vertical suplex gets a two count, followed by a side headlock. Blackman gets to a vertical base but Val stops him with a forearm smash and a near fall. Blackman counters with a kick to the gut and a suplex for a near fall, then chops Val a bunch of times. Powerslam gets a two count as the crowd yawns loudly. Richards grabs Blackman's leg to distract him, which gives Val a chance for a rollup and a three count. Blackman tries to beat everybody up, but THE GOODFATHER and BULL BUCHANAN hit the scene to make it five on one. HARDCORE HOLLY saves Blackman with a fire extinguisher, then stare each other down as the RTC take off.
