RAW report for 8/21/00

1) a) THE ROCK opens our show this week as JIM ROSS notes that JERRY "THE KING" LAWLER is running late... or something. Looks like a loud crowd tonight. Rock notes that Louisiana is shaped like a boot. "And speaking of boots..." and with a few well-placed local references Rock has the crowd EATING OUT OF HIS HAND. I mean, they're absolutely RABID. I'm praying the power doesn't go out or the whole state'll go up in flames. Rock notes that even though TRIPLE H and KURT ANGLE seem to be getting along, they're really not on the same page. He wants payback tonight...

b) ...and who should appear but COMMISSIONER MICK FOLEY, who gets another insanely huge pop (this, all before he makes his usual reference to the town they're in). The real test of a hot crowd, though, is if BIG BOSS MAN can get a huge pop. Foley empathizes with Rock, but warns him to act cautiously lest he lose his title in a fit of rage. He gives Rock the night off, which the crowd seems not to like.

c) Before the crowd can boo Foley's decision, KURT ANGLE shows up with SHANE MCMAHON. Angle pats himself on the back for beating Rock up and joining forces with TRIPLE H.

d) Did you really think HHH wouldn't show up here? He and STEPHANIE MCMAHON-HELMSLEY stop by. HHH says he's proud of ANGLE for showing his loyalty and then uses the "It's True" catchphrase in praise of the Olympic Hero. Triple H suggests that ROCK should put his title on the line regardless of FOLEY's advice. Foley says "It's unfortunate that your ears aren't as big as your nose, or you would've heard that I gave the Rock the night off." So instead, he teams HHH and Angle up to face THE ACOLYTES; then he reminds SHANE that he's facing STEVE BLACKMAN for the Hardcore Title, and puts Stephanie in a title match against LITA. Foley takes her confidence in stride; then he appoints Rock as special guest referee.

2) Backstage we see TAZZ beat up some security guy. As he walks away somebody drops some boxes on him, and we see that it's JERRY LAWLER.

3) We return from commercial break to see JERRY LAWLER come to the ring and congratulate himself for outsmarting TAZZ.

4) THE HARDY BOYS vs. THE DUDLEY BOYS. If you didn't think EDGE and CHRISTIAN would put in an appearance here, you should probably send your resume in to WCW- they'd probably hire you. Ross asks why the tag champs aren't fighting tonight if they're such great champs. Christian: "Did you hear that, Edge? He thinks he knows you!" Duds go for tables pretty quickly but JEFF HARDY hits a somersault plancha to break it up. Edge calls the Duds "the kinds of stinktitude." MATT HARDY and BUH BUH RAY DUDLEY fight on the outside, and EDGE hits a spear on Matt. While the ref is distracted the Duds hit a 3-D on Jeff, but he gets the three count thanks to an Edge chairshot on Buh Buh
