7/30/00 Raw Report

RAW is WAR live from the Georgia Dome, 7/30/00

Before we begin... RIP Gordon Solie, who I remember listening to when I would get up early on Saturday and watch WCW Pro Wrestling. He was a very unique and fantastic announcer who influenced all his colleagues.

1) Road Dogg and X-Pac d. Steve Blackman and Al Snow in a hardcore tag match. Wow, we start with a match. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll be using the alphabetical bullets soon enough. Jim Ross said in his report on Friday that he can see either DX-er in the World title or Intercontinental title hunt, and I wonder if a) Ross doesn't get enough sleep or b) X-Pac hacked into the WWF site and added some entries to the Ross Report. Blackman is shown backstage wondering why he had to team with Snow, who was shown singing "Reunited" by Peaches and Herb. At one point Snow and Blackman double suplex Road Dogg, but X-Pac throws salt at their abdomen (nice going, dude) and that somehow stuns them. Blackman does his usual bit with the garbage can tops, which is still cool to watch. Crowd gives an "X-Pac sucks" chant, which makes me wonder if Georgia Dome fans can read my mind. Al Snow nails Road Dogg with his bowling ball shot! X-Pac tries to show off with a kendo stick but accidentally throws it into the crowd. Jeez, weather forecasters do a better job. Snow accidentally hits Blackman and X-Pac hits the X-Factor for the pin. Yuck.

2) A limo pulls up, and it's Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. We cut to commercial.

3) A) Triple H comes to the ring carrying a bouquet of roses. Great line to start things off: as he gets booed, HHH says "Great... kick a guy while he's down." He addresses Stephanie, saying that he made a mistake last Thursday being caught in a compromising position, but that there was nothing going on between Trish Stratus and himself. He asks Stephanie to come to the ring and accept his apology. She makes the Stephanie pouty-face and then the McMahon I'm-about-to-explode angry face. She chews Triple H out for ignoring her, then accuses him of ogling Trish. HHH maintains his innocence and asks for forgiveness again. Question: why doesn't he just show her the tape from Smackdown? Wouldn't that just clear everything up? Finally she forgives him and they embrace.

B) Commissioner Mick Foley makes the scene, teary-eyed from seeing the touching Helmsley reconciliation. He makes fun of the Helmsleys, then he replays what happened on Smackdown to the delight of the crowd. But, he says, "Just because I find watching paint dry more interesting that you and Stephanie, it's still your business." But he chastises the Game for no-showing his match on Smackdown. He fines him five grand and warns him not to no-show again. Then he books the Helmsleys against Lita and the Rock.
