I cannot tell you why you should not write, or the excuses that keep you or me or anyone else from writing. What I can do is give you some reasons why you should write. May they inspire you. Happy writing!
Why Write
1. If you don't, you'll prove all your worthless excuses to be correct - at least in your own mind.
2. If you do, you will remind yourself what a remarkable gift you have.
3. You have something that you must share with the world. If you don't write it - we'll never have it.
4. You need the mental exercise.
5. It gets your mind off problems that won't go away if you don't write.
6. Your kids will be able to say, "My parent is a writer!" and not be ridiculed.
7. You can say, "I'm a writer", and not feel guilty.
8. You'll hate yourself if you don't.
9. People, including you, are proud of you when you finish a masterpiece.
10. The people who say, "You can't write!" need to be proved wrong.
11. The people who have faith in you need to be proved correct.
12. Masterpieces in your mind don't write themselves.
13. You'll sleep better knowing you've accomplished something.
14. An unused gift rusts away, but never is forgotten.
15. You should not waste all that money you spent on your word processor and printer.
16. Daydreaming can wait for when you are in bed or waiting in line.
17. People may or may not pay you for what you write; they definitely won't pay for what you don't.
18. If all your concerns are that important, then shouldn't they be written for posterity?
19. If your concerns are not important, writing will help you see their true worth.
20. Reading and writing stave off senility.
21. You look smart when you write.
22. People would rather read what you have written than listen to what you have not.
23. Let your characters do things on paper that you know you can never do - and make it exciting for them.
24. The printed page is your voice. Make it shout with the passion you hide in public.
25. Believe it or not, you do owe the world a little something for all the pollution you cause with your daily living - trees should never die in vain.
