Site Review: SpecFicWorld.com

One of the joys of the internet is its ever-changing nature. New and helpful sites appear frequently. As one of the new features here at Writing Science Fiction, look for site reviews on new and noteworthy sites. If you have a website that concerns science fiction and/or science fiction writing email me at alissagrosso@softhome.net for possible inclusion in a future site review.

A Treasure Trove For Speculative Fiction Writers

While surfing one day I came upon SpecFicWorld.com which bills itself as a website for writers of speculative fiction. The site is edited by speculative fiction writer Doyle Eldon Wilmoth, Jr.

The site is not bogged down with excessive graphics or eye-crossing animations. While this may not be visually appealing for some, I find that some webmasters tend to use fancy graphics to divert your attention from the lack of content on their sites. SpecFicWorld.com with it simple, tasteful layout has plenty of content of interest to speculative fiction writers.

What You Will Find

Writers will be most interested in the two large sections labeled "Speculative Fiction Market Resources" and "Resources for Speculative Fiction Writers."

The Market Resources section offers an extensive listing of markets. The markets are sorted by print magazines and ezines and then further broken down into Pro and Semi-Pro. Also in this section you will find a contest listing and a listing of book publishers.

Resources for the Speculative Fiction Writer includes a breakdown of resources by type. Advice on Writing lists several helpful articles for writers that cover a lot of nuts and bolts issues. Also in the resources section you will find pages on agents, conventions, workshops, and more. In the works is a page on promoting your website and a page on writing websites.

SpecFicWorld also contains a new fiction ezine called "Rogue Worlds" and "SpecFicMe" a market newsletter sent via Yahoo Groups

Still in the works is an upcoming series of ebook anthologies called "Otherworlds." This sounds very interesting, and I am eager to see how these anthologies turn out.

A Great Resource

Congratulations are in order for Doyle Eldon Wilmoth, Jr. and the fabulous job he has done with this website. This is an excellent resource for all writers of speculative fiction. I am thankful that my surfing brought me to this site, and I'm sure you will be too. Do yourself a favor and surf over to SpecFicWorld and get lost for an hour or two as you explore the site . . .
