In part 1 of this article we looked at some of the benefits of joining a writing association and took an in depth look at the SFWA. This week we will look briefly at some other writer's associations worth considering

African American Online Writers Guild

benefits: newsletter subscription, eligibility to hold volunteer position, listing and access to members directory, discounted admission for special events, priority consideration for and elligibilty to participate in BWA sponsored booksignings

The Authors Guild

dues:$90/year
local chapters: no
benefits: review of members' publishing and agency contracts, intervention in publishing disputes, seminars and symposia on important issues, lobbying on local and national levels to protect authors' interests, group health insurance
who can join: an author who has had a book published by an established American publisher or a writer who has had three or more works of fiction or non-fiction published in a magazine of general circulation within the last 18 months

The British Science Fiction Association

benefits: monthly meetings attract top authors, chance to be a part of and support British science fiction

Canadian Authors Association

benefits: ability to network with other writers; mentorships; annual conference; subscription to three useful publications; discounts for workshops, conferences, and contests; collective bargaining power; help with copyright issues and grievances

Childrens Book Guild

local chapters: based in Washington, D.C. - Baltimore area
benefits: promotion of contact and exchange of ideas behind those involved in the field of children's literature
who can join: must be sponsored by an existing member, must have published two high quality children's books within the past 5 years, once joining must attend a minimum of three meetings per year.

Horror Writers Association
website: http://www.horror.org
dues: $55/year
local chapters: yes, see website for areas
benefits: access to horror market reports, mentor program, publicity, agents directory
who can join: different levels of membership. Professional writers can join at active level. Those who do not meet qualifications can join at affiliate level.
