Market Report: Little Pay© Alissa Grosso
Jul 6, 2001
Market Report is a monthly feature to help writers keep track of the ever changing markets publishing science fiction.
Believe it or not, a month has passed since the last market report. Hopefully, you have spent that time writing, editing, and submitting. If not, quit procrastinating and get to work.
Better Than Nothing
Last month, we looked at magazines and ezines that offered no monetary compensation for your work. This month we will take a look at some magazines and ezines that offer a small amount of pay for your work.
After slaving away on a story, pouring your life and soul into it, a paycheck that will not even cover the cost of a movie ticket may seem like a joke. Certainly $5 is nothing to write home about, but it is money. No matter how small the paycheck, when you make that first sale you will feel on top of the world.
Craving that incredible high? Explore some of the opportunities below. These markets pay between $5 and $20 for short stories. Most pay a flat fee rather than per word. They are organized by their pay rates with the $5 ones at the top of the list and the $20 ones at the bottom.
