The Pain of Writing Through Pain: Is It Worth It?Both of the examples were equally emotional to write about, but which one conveyed more emotion to you. Hopefully, the second one. This has more emotional impact because it illustrates a specific event. I am not just listing how I felt. It helped me to write the second set of lines more because I was able to analyze behavior and I discovered that I did have some clues as to the problem. Getting specific with an event can help clue you in to why you experience some of the feeling you do about the event. You may even learn more about someone you may have hated for years, or feared. You may find that the problem was not one-sided. By slowing down and analyzing events, you can write your way to better understanding them. So, in the end, it helps more to write specifically about an event as it happened rather than just writing about your emotions. This may cause you a lot of pain while you write. You may cry as you write. This is not dangerous. I believe it to be a very healthy experience. Is it worth it though? That question is one you have to ask yourself. If you are content with writing about things that haven't brought you pain, then why bring it up. I did because I could not quit dwelling on these events and writing was my creative outlet. I wrote about the events for years without ever feeling any better about them, because when I wrote I was just writing about how bad it was. I wasn't really understanding the deeper things that caused the emotion. When I realized that writing specifically was more productive, I was able to write about the events and get them out of my mind, clearing it for more imaginative endeavors. Writing through pain can be very productive both creatively and emotionally. You have to take the time to focus in on the event like you would when you write the totally imagnative ones. Know every detail of the event. You'll be surprised at the release it gives. Have any of you written your way through painful memories? What type of writing has helped you more? Tell us about it on the message board. I hope this article is helpful to you.
