Writing Prompts #2Here we go again. Back by popular demand -- writing prompts. Let me know how these work for you. 1. Nadine is the director of a child care center. Does she like her job? Why? Why not? Has she had any problems with the job? What has been her most rewarding experience? She thinks back to a time when she worked hands on with the children instead of staying in the office and doing the business side of the center. Are those memories fond ones? Her husband is the first man to ever work at the daycare as a care provider. Does she think he does a good job? Does she envy him? This is meant to be a character sketch. Add things in about her looks, personality, age, and etc. The story will come from the events you make up by answering the series of questions about Nadine and her job. 2. Finish this sentence, then use it to springboard more. It wasn't the usual environment that I was used to working in, it was somewhat stifling. 3. Try a freewrite. Write your random thoughts, even if they are personal. After doing this for about five minutes, go back through and pick your favorite thoughts and try to write some fiction that incorporates them. Write everything that comes to mind. Don't stop to think. 4. Write a short piece that fits this title. If you like it make it bigger. Having Tantrums of Sunshine 5. Darren walks his dog everyday on the same path through the park. Write some paragraphs about what Darren sees and does while walking his dog. Does he meet people? Is the path wooded? Does his dog walk slow or fast? Use what you come up with and begin a story with Darren walking his dog. Hint: His thoughts can be a segway into the larger piece, or he could met someone and the piece could evolve from there. Remember, clearly establish who Darren is before writing about him. I hope these prompts help you get started on some good work. Let me know if these prompts help you. Also, feel free to suggest more prompts on the discussion board. Tell me if you would like a different approach in these prompts. Keep writing.
