There Is More than One Way to Become a Bestselling AuthorThe second way to get published is to start with e-publishing. John Cullen, the publisher of my short stories at Farsector, published his own novel THE GENERALS OF OCTOBER in 2000 as an e-book. In 2004 it was picked up by Simon & Schuster because it caught the eye of an editor who was surfing fictionwise.com, the book's electronic distributor. The third way to publish is to publish yourself. Some recent self-published bestsellers include G.P. Taylor's SHADOWMANCER (2004) and Michael Stadther's A TREASURE'S TROVE (2005). Stadther's manuscript was rejected by twelve publishers before he decided to go it alone. Fortunately he had the resources to design an exciting and financially rewarding promotional campaign where he hid gold tokens across America for readers to find after solving the clues given in the book. The reward were actual jewels representing the creatures in his book. But my point isn't to belabour Michael Stadther's personal wealth, business savvy or imagination. The point is that because his book was so successful, the publishing industry is breaking down doors to get on the band waggon with his second book, SECRETS OF THE ALCHEMIST DAR. Obviously, the publishing industry is unwilling to take much risk. But if you have an original idea and are willing to work hard at it, you could become a bestselling author through self-publishing. http://www.trafford.com/robots/04-1332.h... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/08/2...
