Writing Mysteries that Sell Part II: An Interview with Cynthia Baxter- and trying to promote your book to an audience that will respond to some particular element in your book. For me, that's been animals. I was thrilled that my publisher put an ad for PUTTING ON THE DOG in DOG FANCY magazine. (I don't know what the response was.) I also got involved in a fundraiser sponsored by a local group for single dog-owners. I don't know how much publicity the books ended up getting, but I met some interesting people. The bottom line is that it's really difficult with fiction. Even a publicist isn't going to have much luck. I'd say do your best to market yourself and your books locally, and hope that word spreads. DC: I have so many more questions that I could ask you, but I think I'll have to cut it off here. Thanks Cynthia. If any of you have a question or comment for Cynthia Baxter.
