Writing Mysteries that Sell Part I: An Interview with Cynthia Baxter

almost always end up searching online bookstores like Amazon and Chapters to find what I'm looking for. What can an author do to change this?

CB: It's certainly an on-going battle! I can't tell you how many times I've introduced myself to bookstore managers and begged them to get my books in. It doesn't usually do any good. In fact, I went to one chain store and said, "You had 8 copies of my book a few weeks ago, and now there's only 1 left. Are you going to order more?" The manager said, "I'll order them after that last one has been sold." I was flabbergasted. Here's a book that's obviously selling, yet the store is purposely going to go through a 5-day period of not having the book in the store at all? All I can say is thank goodness for Amazon and Chapters!

DC: And thanks to Cynthia for her honest and amusing insights. Come back for Part II of Cynthia Baxter's interview on November 22! She'll hang around to answer questions or comments if anyone would like to post.
