A Library at Your Fingertips
First off, the emphasis of this topic will be changing a little. Because Suite 101 will soon have a section devoted to freelancers and nonfiction, I've decided to focus on creative writing. I'll include articles of interest to writers of fiction and poetry. I haven't planned out my next month's articles based on the changed focus, so if anyone has suggestions, let me know. Second, I know I've covered research before, but some of these sights are so good, I just had to get the word out. Many of these come from a recent circular from @writers. To subscribe to the free @WRITERS newsletter, send 'subscribe a-writers' message to And now the recommended fiction research sites:
Writer's Toolbox — Now has a Java-based chat room, as well as up-to-date links and lots of good info. I know this is one my links list, but I think it's worth a second mention. Internet Public Library — While this isn't exactly a substitute for a good local library, it's still a good place to start your research. You'll find information on almost any topic here, though you may miss the smell of ink and paper. Fantasy Writers Resources — Even if you don't write fantasy, you might want to take a look at this site. You'll find some good resources, and lots of fun stuff. And last, although this isn't a research site, it's worth a plug.Writers' Village offers writing classes. Fiction 401 is a free fiction course, and it looks good. I've taken one of their free courses, and it was worthwhile.
