Book Arts a Great Addition to Suite 101© Roxianne Moore
A Look At Suite 101's Contributing Editors
Because I manage such a large group, I'll showcase a few at a time for the next several weeks. And, since I honestly can't choose a favorite among all the topics I manage, I'm going to go in rough alphabetical order. Which means that, this week, I'll be looking at: Like the rest of us in this group, Mary Bergner, editor of Book Arts, is a bibliophile. But let her speak for herself: I am interested in all aspects of books, including bookbinding, print-making, book design, typography, and reading them, of course! One of my favorite quotes is by Desiderius Erasmus, who once said, "When I get a little money, I buy books. If there is any left over, I buy food and clothes." Maybe you've never thought of books as art, or the art of making books. I know of a publisher who designs the most beautiful small-run books, truly an art. If you're new to the subject of books as art, her Introduction to the Book Arts provides definitions to the terms she'll be using. A History of American Papermaking gives an overview, with an intriguingly futuristic introduction. As we move toward a "paperless" society (something I don't see happening for a very long time), will we gain a new appreciation of printed, handheld tomes? While hers is a new topic, having started in September, she's already demonstrated an ability to convey her passion for books and book arts. Take a look at her topic, enter into a discussion, enjoy. Next time, I'll take a look at another topic in Books and Writing. Some of our topics include: Talk about a wide range of topics! And that's just scratching the surface. Go To Page: 1 |
