Crappy Wrestling and Cruiserweights

I hate being a bitter, angry jerk to a bunch of guys a hell of a lot more talented than me and who work a hell of a lot harder than I do at anything.

But, damn, the Invasion sucks!

Who the hell in Washington really wanted to see Booker T take on Buff the Stuff Bagwell? I mean Buff is OK in my book, but not in Washington. You see, World Championship Wrestling under Ted Turner’s evil rule never ventured outside the Midwest, so the hardest WCW fans are right smack in the middle of the country.

Washingtonians and New Yorkers don’t care about Booker T.

On a side note (as in ringside), those commentators really blew. Arn Anderson is a great guy and all, but he’s no commentator. And speaking of no commentators, there was no color commentator for the match. For a moment I almost missed Heyman (I got over it though).

According to rumor, Jerry “the King” Lawler was supposed to be contracted with WCW as a color commentator, but only if his wife, The Kat, was given a contract to accompany him to ringside. As the story goes, only one contract was mailed to the Lawler household, and there will no King of WCW until the second is received.

Please, guys, send that other contract!

But before I get too brutal, let me acknowledge how beyond awesome the Cruiserweight title match was on July 5’s episode of “Smackdown.” Billy Kidman is one of the few all-around talented guys out there. I could see him taking on Chris Jericho is it weren’t for how WCW (under Bischoff) promoted lightweights.

You see, the WWF only created the Light Heavy Weight belt to mock WCW’s Cruiserweight division. That’s why up until the purchase of purchases the Light Heavy Weight Belt was largely ignored, and when it did get attention, it was on “Heat” or “Metal.”

But now the federations are going punch-for-punch, and WWF needs to rival that division, lest WCW dominate them under Shane’s rule (actually, it’s more likely Vince will sabotage WCW promotion if he doesn’t like his self-competition, but you get the point). Thus Jeff Hardy as former Light Heavy Weight Champion, thus mentioning Scotty 2 Hottie’s and Christian’s reigns with the LHW belt (and I’m sure they had good intentions giving the title to X-Pac, though it will likely hurt the belt’s reputation more than it will help it).

But getting back to business: I wasn’t much of a fan of Booker T in the old WCW, nor was a much for Diamond Dallas Page, but I have still seen both men perform better than they did on “Smackdown.” Maybe they don’t feel encouraged by the limited fan base on WWF television, but whatever the case, they need to shape up. Otherwise they will seriously hurt their promotions prior to WCW’s television debut.

I wish I had that hat
