When WCW Attacks

The invasion has begun!

Not that it hasn’t been squawked about all over the Internet for months already (even I have been guilty of that), but it was still pretty to cool when the McMahon’s officially announced – as cooperative as they can be on TV – that the upcoming pay-per-view, “Fully Loaded” will be a Fully Loaded Invasion (although the official term is simply “Invasion”).

Again, it’s not like we didn’t see it coming. The rumors of this pay-per-view have been abound since people realized there was a possibility of WWF buying WCW.

And Vince McMahon knows this.

That’s why Michael Cole spent half of June 28’s “Smackdown” saying things like it's a dream come true for him as a wrestling fan, and other silliness.

I like the idea of Stone Cold taking on Booker T . . . but for what? It’s not like there’s a title on the line.

I think the whole point of this is to make true those “dream matches” that everyone used to speak about back it was only hearsay and rumor that WWF was going to buy out WCW.

You know, like Ray Mysterio, Jr. versus Jeff Hardy or Stone Cold versus Goldberg, The Rock versus Booker T – well, they can’t get them all right.

Anyway, despite the story line thrown into it, I can’t help but feel this is like one of those fan-boy fiction pieces. It’s a better effort than usual for making a never-before-seen match. (Remember Triple H versus Undertaker at “Wrestlemania”?)

As much as the launch into the invasion was pretty decent, the rest seems rather random. Why is Diamond Dallas Page still messing with The Undertaker and family? And why did Booker T interfere with the Austin-Jericho-Benoit match at “King of the Ring” at all?

Austin and Booker T are kind of miss-matched, too. Booker T’s fighting style is like a cross between The Rock and K-Kwik (only less rapping). Austin and his three wrestling moves (i.e. his right hands, when he jumps on the guy and bombards him with right hands and The Stunner . . . I think he did a suplex once, too) are better suited to Goldbear, I mean Goldberg.

I’m not fond of Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire versus the Dudley Boyz either. The boys have slowed down a bit since coming to the WWF. Unless they go back to their ECW roots, they don’t stand a chance. They’re too slow and fat to really give it to the WCW tag champs. And the Hardyz aren’t much better. They lack in size what the Dudleyz lack in speed and intensity. That match has a lot of potential, but the boys better grow up fast.
